Scoil Oilibhéir was delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Tony Fitzgerald, to the school this morning. It has long been a tradition that the Lord Mayor visit Cork schools and it is always an exciting and historic occasion. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress were given a warm Scoil Oilibhéir welcome by all the pupils and staff in Halla Oilibhéir. The Lord Mayor spoke to the children and encouraged them to lead a healthy lifestyle. He also showed them his chain of office and the children were amazed to hear that this chain is 230 years old. After the formal presentations the Lord Mayor was treated to a rousing rendition of our school song Amhrán Oilibhéir followed by Amhrán na bhFiann.
