Last Friday was a very special day in the life of Scoil Oilibhéir as we launched our new “Blossom” logo, created by two of our 6th class pupils, Kate Morgan and Carmela Alim.
At the beginning of each term Mr. O’Brien and Mrs. Horgan, meet with each of the class levels in the school to go through the school rules with them and encourage them to have a positive school term ahead. Mr. O’Brien reminds the pupils that he can’t remember all of our rules; so to help him follow all of them he came up with the “3Rs” – Respect, Responsibility & Reaction – and he explains that if they follow the message of those 3 key words they will automatically be following all of the school rules.
After our meeting with the 5th & 6th class pupils last January, Mrs. Horgan ran a competition among the pupils to see who could best summarise the messages of the termly talk. As a result of that 2 pupils, Kate Morgan and Carmela Alim from 6thclass designed the beautiful image called “How to Blossom in Scoil Oilibhéir: For Pupils, By Pupils”.
Everybody was so taken with this image that Mr. O’Brien decided to ask a graphic designer to make a permanent jpeg of it and we are going to use it on the inside cover of our homework journal from September 2019. We are also going to use it as our reference point for our future termly talks with our pupils. This is an example of our older pupils giving advice to our younger pupils and indeed to future generations of Scoil Oilibhéir pupils about how to engage with life in our school in order to have a happy, fruitful time here and reach their potential.
