There may be severe weather in the coming weeks so please read the following so that you will be informed of the school’s approach to severe weather conditions.
Keeping our school open will be a priority and closing the school for any period would only be considered by the Board of Management where we deem it unsafe to open, or where a Government alert instructs us to close.
Should a decision be taken to close the school we will communicate this to parents via text message at the earliest opportunity. If you don’t receive a text from us, assume that the school is open at the usual time.
If the school is open:
- the main access and pedestrian routes on the school grounds will be regularly salted
- we must insist that parents bringing you child(ren) to school ensure that your children walk carefully and don’t run or skate on the school grounds.
- in the event of weather and road conditions deteriorating, every effort will be made to open the school gates at the usual time of 08:40. On such mornings we will endeavour to have as many staff as possible onsite to ensure that pupils who arrive at the usual time are safe and supervised.
- However on such mornings where the roads and footpaths are dangerous, parents can bring children to school later as a safer option to allow time for a thaw on roads and footpaths and the school grounds and to reduce the risk of accidents in the vicinity of the school between 08:30 and 09.00.
The Board of Management wishes to reassure you that the safety of all members of the school community will be the key focus in terms of managing our response to weather conditions.
