Today was a day to remember here in Scoil Oilibhéir as our fantastic hurlers made their way to Páirc Uí Rinn to play Carrigtwohill in the Sciath na Scol Final. Seven bus loads of supporters, all decked out in the school colours, were in fine voice as they followed the team to Páirc Uí Rinn.
The pitch was bathed in summer sunshine and all was in readiness for a fabulous final. Unfortunately we lost our captain early on but the boys showed skill and tenacity having left in an early goal. Undeterred they played on and our supporters played a vital role as they cheered the team on. The boys battled hard, scoring three goals in total, but they met a better team on the day and Carrigtwohill took home the cup.
However, there was nothing lost in defeat as the boys gave of their best and we are immensely proud of their efforts and achievements. Their mentors Mr O’Driscoll, Mr. Ryng, Mr. Elliffe and Mr. Barry praised the commitment of the team and also thanked the boys’ parents for their unfailing support throughout the campaign.
The team received a warm welcome back in school where every pupil came out to greet them and to give them a well deserved ‘Hurrah’! We have no doubt that these boys will go on to represent the school, and their clubs, in the future.
