The Tour de France paled in comparison to the marvellous day of cycling that we had in Scoil Oilibhéir today. The day began early as the children, accompanied by parents and teachers, gathered at the Glen in readiness for the cycle to school. All decked out in high vis and helmets the cyclists made their way up the hill and entered the school to cheers and applause.
During the day we had a cycleathon where all those with bikes, infants to sixth class, had the opportunity to cycle around the school and to enjoy being cheered on by their school mates. There were lots of yellow jerseys, ‘maillots jaunes’, to be seen pedaling across the school yard as the ‘peloton’ made its way around the course. The fun did not end there – what should appear in the school yard only the icecream van!! Lots of exhausted cyclists sitting on the grass and enjoying a nice cool treat….what a fitting end to a wonderful day!
