Sporting Past Pupils

We always love to hear of the achievements of our past pupils in Scoil Oilibhéir. Some of our sporty past pupils have been very busy of late.

Craig Hanafin was on the victorious Sciath na Scol Roinn A team of 2009. After he left Scoil Oilibhéir, he continued to develop his skills with his club Na Piarsaigh and with Cork. He scored 2 points for Cork minors in the All-Ireland Hurling Final on Sunday last on the hallowed turf of Croke Park. Unfortunately, Galway won the day but we are looking forward to keeping an eye on Craigs’ progress in the future.

Liam O’Connor played in 4 Sciath na Scol Finals for the school, winning in 2008. As he progressed through secondary school, he focused on rugby, winning AIL titles with Cork Con and has been part of the Munster Academy for the last 3 years. Liam started his first game for Munster in a jam packed Irish Independent Park in the Pro 14 on Friday night last. Best wishes to Liam in the red of Munster for the rest of the season.

On Sunday next, the All Ireland Camogie Finals take place in Croke Park and again Scoil Oilibhéir will be well represented. Lauren Callanan and Leanne O’Sullivan were excellent camogie players during their time in school and will wear the red jersey of Cork again on Sunday as they bid to add to their medal collections. We are hoping that we will be welcoming the girls back with some silverware in the very near future! Up the Rebels!

Ollies Abú!
